SSE’s new Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station at Great Island, Co. Wexford, has gone into commercial operation and has now been officially added to the company’s electricity generation fleet as an operating asset.
The CCGT station, based on the shores of Waterford Harbour at Great Island, Co. Wexford, is now the cleanest and most efficient natural gas power plant on Ireland’s national grid, will generate enough energy to power the equivalent of half a million Irish homes of SSE Airtricity customers.

Construction works at SSE’s new €331m Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant at Great Island, County Wexford are fast approaching completion later this year, following the successful achievement of a number of landmarks over the first three months of 2014.
