SSE Airtricity reduces household electricity prices in ROI

SSE Airtricity will reduce its household electricity prices in the Republic of Ireland by 2% from 11 January 2016 saving home electricity customers €23† annually. The price cut, which applies to the company’s unit rates and standing charges, follows an earlier 2% cut in April and means that in the last year alone SSE Airtricity has delivered annual savings of almost €50˄ in its standard prices to home electricity customers in Ireland.

Stephen Wheeler, SSE Airtricity Managing Director, commented:

“I’m pleased that for the second time in 12 months, we’re delivering on our promise that if we can lower our electricity prices, we will. By announcing a further 2% cut from January to our household electricity prices, we are saving our customers almost €50 on average in their annual electricity costs compared with this time last year.

“I’m also proud that we’re making a difference for our customers every day, including our most vulnerable customers. SSE Airtricity continues to be the only energy provider in the market to automatically give lower-cost price discounts to all our customers on post-introductory tariffs regardless of contract type, and to be the only supplier to offer discounted Pay-As-You-Go rates to most-in-need customers to help them manage their energy costs including outstanding energy debt.”

Since it entered Ireland’s competitive household energy market in 2009 SSE Airtricity has delivered combined savings in home energy costs of over €100 million so far to all its customers on introductory and post-introductory prices.

SSE Airtricity continues to drive competition in the energy market by offering significant value to new customers switching for its competitively-priced electricity-only and dual fuel products. Customers switching today to SSE Airtricity can save up to 20% on electricity and up to 10% on gas against the company’s Standard unit rates*.

The reduction will apply to around 340,000** SSE Airtricity household electricity customers in ROI.
