David McMillan named SSE Airtricity Player of the Month for March

Dundalk striker David McMillan has been named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month for March.

It is the second time that McMillan has won the monthly award which was presented to him today by Aine Murphy from SSE Airtricity.

McMillan was in flying form in March as he bagged four goals to get Dundalk’s title defence up and running.

In his first season at Dundalk, McMillan bagged 15 goals, seven in the league, despite not being a regular starter for the Lilywhites.

This year though he is leading the team after recovering from an ankle problem.

"It’s nice to win the award, especially on the back of some pretty good results," explained McMillan. It has been a great start for me. I didn’t score in my first two games but once the first one went in the others have followed suit. Hopefully I can keep it going."

“There has been no added pressure with the games I’ve been starting this year. Stephen Kenny has shown faith in me and I just want to repay him.”

McMillan is hoping there is another successful season in store for champions Dundalk and that his goal run can continue.

“Getting back from injury was my only target at the start of the season. I haven’t really set myself any targets but I’d like to get 20 goals. Any striker would like to do that but I’m not putting any pressure on myself.”

In winning the award, McMillan saw off competition from team-mates Daryl Horgan who finished second and goalkeeper Gary Rogers who was third.
