Rhode power station is situated at Rhode, Co. Offaly, west of Edenderry in the same county and in the heart of the Bog of Allen.
Rhode power station comprises two 52MW gas/oil-fired open cycle unit turbines and commenced commercial operations in 2004. Its principle function is to help maintain security of electricity supply in Irelands all-island Single Electricity Market (SEM) by being available to operate on quick response to peaks in national energy demand.
