Slieve Divena II

  • Category: Renewable
  • Energy type: Onshore wind
  • Project type: Project

SSE's Slieve Divena II project, located near Ballygawley, County Tyrone, has now entered construction. When complete, the wind farm will have a total export capacity of 18.8MW, producing enough green energy to power around 16,300* homes.

It will comprise eight 2.35MW Enercon E-92 wind turbines with a tip height of 125m, a hub height of 78.3 metres, and a rotor diameter of 92 metres.

The project was initially granted planning permission in 2007, however, upgrades were required to the electricity network before construction could progress. With the upgrades due to be completed this year, SSE is now in a position to begin building on the site.

As an industry leader, SSE makes clear commitments to deliver long-term benefits for the communities close to our wind farms. For Slieve Divena II, this will involve community funding worth almost £94,000 per annum. This funding will commence the year after construction completes, and will run for 25 years. The funding will include a Community Fund for local organisations within a 12 mile radius of the wind farm.

Projected generation and homes powered calculations based on typical annual consumption of 3,200kWh (Utility Regulator Transparency Report, February 2016) and 1 year average recorded capacity factor of SSE wind farms operating in Northern Ireland, April 2015-March 2016. Historic figures quoted are for guideline purposes only – actual future performance may vary.
