Emergency response to fire close to Galway Wind Park ongoing (12.30pm)

The major fire incident close to the 169MW Galway Wind Park site in Cloosh Valley, Co. Galway is ongoing. Galway Wind Park is a joint venture development project between SSE and forestry company Coillte.

A regional multi-agency emergency response operation is in place. Coillte staff and the fire services have been on site since 5.30am, and civilian and army corps helicopters have been carrying out water drops since early this morning.

Army personnel have now been mobilised in Cloosh Valley to assist in fire beating, as the focus is on controlling the fire on a number of fronts. SSE’s on-site project team is continuing to work closely with local ground crews in Coillte Forest and support agencies to coordinate the emergency response.

Members of the public are urged to stay safe and stay away from any areas affected by these fires and to immediately report any uncontrolled or unattended fires to the Fire and Emergency Services.

SSE’s number one priority continues to be ensuring the safety of our employees, contractors, ground crews and support personnel. The company will continue to issue updates as more details become available.
