Mark has over 30 years’ leadership and board experience, 15 years of which have been in the energy sector. In addition to his role as Executive Chairman of SSE Ireland, Mark is Chairperson of regional business development agency Invest Northern Ireland and is a former Chairperson of CBI Northern Ireland.

Commenting on his award, Mark said:

“I am very humbled and proud to receive this award but in many ways it reflects how fortunate I have been to work with, and be part of, great teams over the years, including those currently at SSE and Invest NI, and previously at Airtricity and Boxmore International. Of course, none of this would have been achieved throughout the years without the never-ending support of my wife Maureen and my family.”

Welcoming the honour, Gregor Alexander, Lead Executive Director for Ireland, said:

“I am delighted for Mark that he has been recognised in this way. Mark has provided outstanding business leadership to encourage and promote investment into Northern Ireland, both in his executive positions at SSE and through his many non-executive activities including as Chairperson of Invest NI. I would like to congratulate Mark for receiving this honour and in particular commend him for the invaluable contribution and support that he has shown SSE and me personally as we continue to grow our business.”
