Christy Fagan named SSE Airtricity Player of the Month for March

St. Patrick's Athletic striker Christy Fagan has been named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month for March.

It is the third time that Fagan has won the monthly award, which was presented to him today by Leanne Sheill from SSE Airtricity.

Fagan has had an impressive start to the season after his injury problems last term. The striker netted in the Saints' opening four games and is delighted with his form.

But he knows Liam Buckley's side still have work to do to get up to full speed after a slow start.

Fagan reckons it will take time for the new players to settle into the St. Pat's side but he believes they are starting to come good.

"It's my third time to win this award and I'm delighted. Personally it has been a very good month for me," said Fagan.

"As a team we have been a bit stop-start so far. We had good results against Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers, but some of the other results were disappointing.

"It will take some time with the new lads that have come in, but it is starting to click for us. The new lads have been great. The more games that we play together the better we will get."

Fagan insists the Saints have silverware on their minds this season and he hopes his goals can help them achieve their aims.

"The aim is to win something this season like it always is at St Pat's. That's the target we have set as a team.

"Personally, I have targets in my own head, a number I'd like to get to, but I will see how it goes. I have started well with the goals I have got so far."

In winning the award, Fagan saw off competition from Cork City striker Sean Maguire and Dundalk winger Daryl Horgan, who were joint-second in the voting.
