SSE Airtricity Scholarship Fund
FUNDING YOUR FUTURE THROUGH LOCAL ENERGY
The 2018 SSE Airtricity Scholarship is now open - and it's bigger than ever before!
Over the last four years, the SSE Airtricity Scholarship has provided education funding from local wind power – totalling over £350,000 so far – to 100 third-level students attending Ulster University and South West College.
Now in its fifth year, The SSE Airtricity Scholarship is bigger than ever before – with increased funding from our wind farms, an expanded catchment area, and a new third-level college partner!
From 2018, annual funding available from The SSE Airtricity Scholarship will increase. This is thanks to the addition of regional funding from two of our newest wind farms – Tievenameenta near Killeter and Slieve Diveva II near Ballgawley – on top of existing funding from our Slieve Kirk Wind Park, Northern Ireland’s largest wind farm, situated between Derry and Limavady. As a result, we’re now able to extend the catchment area for receipt of applications for Scholarships to Co. Fermanagh for the first time. And to reflect the increased funding available and expanded catchment area, we’re adding a new third-level college partner to our Scholarship programme – North West Regional College.
Who can apply?
The SSE Airtricity Scholarship is available to students living in Co. Derry/Londonderry, Co. Tyrone and now – for the first time – Co. Fermanagh. Scholarships will be awarded to successful students commencing first year studies for a range of courses at Ulster University, at South West College and now also at North West Regional College.
What funding is available?
The SSE Airtricity Scholarship provides 50% funding support towards the cost of third level fees for students commencing first year studies at our partner colleges. While funding is available for a broad range of subjects, including business, media and design, there is a particular emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. Through the Scholarship programme, we're working with Ulster University, South West College and North West Regional College to create greater awareness and diversity in STEM subjects, and to ultimately increase employment in those areas in Northern Ireland. Details of the courses being funded can be found on our downloadable (PDF) application form.
